The Singapore Grand Prix 2024 was dominated by Lando Norris. The Briton beat championship leader Max Verstappen by 20 seconds.
Qualifying for this year's Singapore Grand Prix was dominated by Norris, who beat Verstappen by 2 tenths. The McLaren driver then used pole position to maintain his lead after the start of the Grand Prix.
After the first laps the order was as follows: Norris, Verstappen, Hamilton, Russell, Piastri, Hulkenberg and Alonso. Lecelerc was eighth, who, like his teammate Sainz, had a disappointing qualifying (both qualified in 9th and 10th).
Hamilton was the first of the leaders to pit on lap 18. His teammate Russell changed tyres eight laps later.
However, the focus was mainly on Norris, who slightly hit the protective barrier on lap 30 but survived the incident. The McLaren driver then pitted a lap later (shortly after Verstappen made his stop).
Leclerc and Norris were the last of the top drivers to make pit stops.
On lap 39 the order was as follows: Norris, Verstapen, Russell, Hamilton, Piastri, Sainz, Alonso, Leclerc.
While the order at the front was more or less decided, it was clear that Piastri and Leclerc would try to take advantage of the fresher tyres to gain positions.
That's what happened when Piastri managed to get ahead of both Mercedes drivers to take third.
Leclerc attempted to do the same, with Alonso and Sainz the fastest. The Monegasque was eventually able to pass Hamilton, but was no longer able to keep up with Russell.
Meanwhile, Norris claimed the win, followed by Verstappen and Piastri.
The next positions were taken by Russell, Leclerc, Hamilton, Sainz, Hulkenberg and Perez.
Ricciardo set the fastest lap of the race at the end, which caused Norris, who held the fastest lap earlier, to lose an extra point.
With his third win of the season, Norris closed the gap to Verstappen by 7 points. The Dutchman now leads by 52 points.
