TRAFFIC RULES IN VICTORIA

SPEED LIMITS

In Melbourne, you should obey the following speed limits
Urban Areas: Generally 50 km/h unless otherwise signposted.
School Zones: Usually 40 km/h during school hours (8:00-9:30 AM and 2:30-4:00 PM on school days).
Main Roads and Highways: Typically 60-80 km/h in urban areas and up to 100-110 km/h on highways.

TRAFFIC SIGNALS

Obey all traffic signals and signs. Melbourne uses red light cameras and speed cameras extensively.

ALCOHOL BEHIND THE WHEEL

A fully licensed driver who reaches a BAC of 0.05 to 0.07 will be fined and 10 penalty points will be imposed. If he/she scores a BAC of 0.07 or more, his/her licence will be revoked. They will also be required to install an alcohol interlock device for a minimum of six months after their licence is reinstated.

SEAT BELTS

All passengers must wear seat belts. Children must be in approved child restraints based on age and size.

TOLL

Melbourne has several toll roads, including CityLink and EastLink. Tolls are generally paid electronically via an e-tag or online.
